FLF is a membership-based organization opened to all female students of Nigerian secondary and tertiary institutions who subscribe to its objectives, irrespective of their cultural, social or religious background.
The female Leadership Forum (FLF) was founded by the first female president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comfort Idika-Ogunye in 1996 at the University of Jos, Plateau state Nigeria. Precisely in 2001 the forum began to function as a Non-Governmental organisation registered under Nigeria’s Companies and Allied Matters Act. Since 2001, FLF has been committed to the leadership development of young women in Nigerian tertiary institutions and students in primary and secondary schools. FLF’s focal objective is to build, through training, research, mentoring and advocacy, the capacity of female students and youths for leadership roles and equip them with the requisite participatory and competitive spirit to enable them cope as leaders while in school and also to empower them to participate effectively in all strata of the Nigerian polity after graduation.

Since inception, FLF has directly trained over 10,000 female students across tertiary institutions in the six geo-political zones.
FLF in collaboration with Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN) has also trained over 500 School Based Management Committees in Lagos State.
Our Mission
To build the capacity of female students for leadership and equip them with the requisite participatory governance skills through training, research, mentoring and advocacy.
Our Vision
To accelerate the participation of women in leadership and decision making for social transformation and gender equality and equity.
Our Objectives
To integrate female students of Nigeria’s secondary and tertiary institutions in a process of leadership skills development thereby equipping them with the tools needed to work along with their male counterparts in leadership positions in the future.
To expand the scope of female participation in students’ representative organs and other associations in the focus areas (universities, polytechnics and colleges of education and selected primary and secondary schools) through political education, leadership skills development and practical activity.
To broaden the knowledge of female students on women rights and development issues through periodic capacity building programmes, workshops, lectures, seminars, symposia etc.
To ensure sustainable progress and achieve set goals through advocacy, team building and solidarity with other organizations that are serious about closing the gender gap.
To advocate for the inclusion of gender and development studies in the curriculum of primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.
